Chennai News: AR Rahman’s son Ameen escaped with minor injuries after the Porsche he was driving collided with a Rapido Wagon-R near the Olympia Tech Park signal in Guindy, Chennai, early on Monday. The accident took place around 3.30 am when Ameen was travelling towards Guindy with a friend. Police said the Wagon-R entered the main road from a side road and collided with the Porsche. Ameen and his friend were taken to Kauvery Hospital for treatment and were later discharged. The passenger in the Wagon-R was also injured and admitted to Kalaignar Centenary Super Speciality Hospital before being discharged. The Adyar Traffic Investigation Wing police seized both vehicles and registered a case.

While the exact Porsche model Ameen was driving has not been publicly identified, the Rahman family has previously been linked to a Porsche Taycan. In 2022, AR Rahman shared a photograph of his daughters, Khatija Rahman and Rahima Rahman, with a new electric Porsche Taycan. The car, which had an ‘ARR Studios’ number plate, was reported to cost around Rs 1.53 crore. However, the exact Taycan variant was not disclosed, making its precise price unclear. At the time, the different Taycan variants available in India were reported to cost between Rs 1.53 crore and Rs 2.34 crore.

The Taycan is Porsche’s first fully electric sports car and was reportedly chosen by Khatija and Rahima as part of what AR Rahman described as their decision to ‘go green’. The car featured in the photograph shared by Rahman was finished in blue metallic and carried the ‘ARR Studios’ registration. The purchase attracted attention because it combined the family’s association with luxury cars with an electric vehicle. Reports at the time estimated the particular car at around Rs 1.53 crore, although the precise variant was not confirmed.

AR Rahman has also been reported to own several other luxury vehicles, including a Volvo SUV, a Mercedes-Benz reportedly worth nearly Rs 3 crore and a Jaguar valued at more than Rs 1 crore. The figures are based on media reports and publicly available information, and the current ownership status or exact variants of these vehicles has not been independently established. AR Rahman’s daughters’ Porsche Taycan, however, was publicly showcased by the composer himself in 2022.

AR Rahman’s journey to becoming one of India’s most internationally recognised composers began under difficult circumstances. He reportedly dropped out of school to support his family financially before building a career that eventually took him from Indian cinema to Hollywood.

His breakthrough came with Mani Ratnam’s Roja in 1992. He went on to win two Academy Awards for Slumdog Millionaire in 2009, along with two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe during his international career.

Reports have estimated AR Rahman’s net worth at around Rs 1,728 crore, with his earnings coming from music, live performances, endorsements, film projects and other assets. Some reports have also claimed that he charges around Rs 3 crore for a song, although such figures are not officially confirmed by Rahman. His reported wealth extends beyond music, with properties and studios in India and overseas. He is also reported to own a residence in Los Angeles, alongside his primary home in Chennai and multiple recording facilities.

The Porsche Taycan is among the most visible examples of the Rahman family’s association with high-end automobiles. While the Porsche involved in Ameen’s Monday morning accident has not been publicly identified by model, the family’s earlier Taycan purchase provides a documented link between the Rahman family and the German luxury carmaker. The latest crash has therefore brought renewed attention to the family’s luxury-car collection, even as police continue their investigation into the Guindy collision.
