Really.

Move on. It’s over.

Why you ask?

Well, a man named Sam Bodoano, who hails from Surrey in England, recently ran 100km in 14 hours, covering the distance between the hallowed Lord’s Cricket Ground in North London and Valley End Cricket Club in Woking – just to bowl the first delivery of a match to his father to break the Guinness World Record for the longest runup (male).

Yup, that happened.

But this wasn’t an attempt made simply because someone woke up one morning and thought, ‘Why not?’

There was a very good reason behind it too.

It was done for a cause – and more on that later.

First, the details.

Bodoano started his bowling run-up at midnight on Saturday (August 29), dressed in full cricket whites and, of course, carrying a cricket ball. Fourteen hours and 100km later, he arrived at the venue at 2 pm (local time) on Sunday to unleash the delivery – essentially turning up what should be a run-of-the-mill his bowling run-up into an ultra-marathon.

Besides potentially becoming the proud owner of the record – provided Guiness World Cup Records rubber stamps it after verification – Bodoano also raised £6,000 for cancer charity The Ruth Strauss Foundation, founded by former England captain Andrew Strauss, whose wife passed away at the age of 46 after battling a rare form of lung cancer.

“I’m very tired, I lost a lot of sleep, but it was all for an amazing cause,” Bodoano was quoted as saying by the BBC.

The current record (male) is held by Tom Dunn, who ran 24km in August 2024.

The record tough isn’t official, yet.

“That review can take about two weeks, depending on the evidence submitted, so at this stage we wouldn’t be able to officially recognise the achievement,” BBC quoted a Guinness World Records spokesperson as saying.

So, for now, Bodoano will have to wait.

But whether or not the record books eventually give him the nod, one thing is already certain: that was one hell of a run (up).

At this stage, Guinness World Records cannot officially recognise Sam Bodoano’s record attempt. A spokesperson for the organisation stated that they must first review the submitted evidence, a process that can take approximately two weeks.
