The spotlight will inevitably fall on Sooryavanshi, even though East have plenty of established names in their squad. Captain Ishan Kishan, experienced pacer Mohammed Shami, former India A captain Abhimanyu Easwaran, India A regular Kumar Kushagra, Shahbaz Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar provide the side with considerable experience. Sooryavanshi’s appointment as vice-captain by the zonal selection committee, however, adds another layer of interest to his campaign. Against a North East attack that lacks quality and experience, the challenge for Sooryavanshi will be less about his ability to score and more about his temperament. If he can show the patience required in the longer format, he has the game to cash in heavily.
