Nitish Reddy is fully fit and available for selection. However, Jasprit Bumrah is not yet fully fit; he may require more time to recover completely, and his participation in the series remains a close call or he may be rested to avoid putting too much strain on his body.

For India, Shreyas Iyer is captaining the side, while Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Harshit Rana are included subject to their fitness. For Afghanistan, Ibrahim Zadran will lead the team in his first assignment as full-time T20I captain, and fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq makes his return to the squad.
