In an exclusive chat with News18, Neha Dhupia, who has been part of films such as Julie, Singh Is Kinng, Tumhari Sulu, Hindi Medium and Lust Stories, opened up on whether she got her due in Bollywood.
She said, “I love this business. I honestly have nothing against the business. love the industry. I don’t know anything else. I’ve never done anything else in my life. I feel like it’s a combination of lack of opportunity, plus opportunities not created by me either. Sometimes before blaming what’s going on on the outside, you’ve got to look within. Maybe I didn’t put out this signal.”
Neha said the industry often typecasts actors. “What the industry does is put you in a box immediately. Like, what’s the point of having Neha if she’s not going to look a certain way? Or what’s the point of having someone if they’re not going to be performing this way? Or what’s the point of having some really big actor from theatre or from a certain college background?”
Neha Dhupia On Comparing Herself To Others
The actor also spoke about how comparing yourself with other people — especially in Bollywood — can make you feel unsuccessful. She said she has consciously stopped doing that. “When you start feeling that you’re not successful, it’s when you start comparing yourself to other people. The one thing that I stopped doing is comparing myself. And I feel my success lies in that. For a very long time, I was comparing. ‘No, no, I’m not this. I haven’t done that.’ A lot of people will be like, “But you’ve done so much.” It’s the comparison that makes you feel unsuccessful. The day you realise that your success lies in completely different places and you stop comparing yourself, that’s when things change.”
52 Blue had its North American premiere at the Washington, DC International Film Festival on April 19, 2026, and later opened the London Indian Film Festival with its European premiere at BFI Southbank on July 9. The film has also been selected for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
