The Kalash Yatra began from the Sant Ravidas Temple at Mukundwadi and later culminated in a Kalash Puja ceremony at Kasliwal Maidan. Chavan paid tribute to Sant Ravidas Maharaj as well as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Chavan said Sant Ravidas had challenged social divisions and propagated the values of equality, brotherhood and social unity. He said the BJP’s campaign was aimed at taking these ideas to different sections of society and bringing people together. Chavan also linked the campaign to the broader political and developmental goal of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047. He said the country needed to rise above caste and religious divisions and strengthen the spirit of nationalism.
Referring to the social philosophy of Dr BR Ambedkar, Chavan said the message of social harmony must reach every section of society. He described the campaign as an effort to reinforce unity while drawing from the teachings of Sant Ravidas and the ideals associated with Ambedkar.
The campaign is planned as a long-term statewide exercise. The Kalash Yatra, which began in Varanasi, is scheduled to travel across Maharashtra in phases from July 2026 to February 2027. The sacred soil from Sant Ravidas’ birthplace will be taken to all districts of the state, where Kalash Puja programmes will be organised.
The BJP says the initiative is intended to take Sant Ravidas Maharaj’s message of equality, brotherhood and social cohesion to the grassroots.
The event in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar saw the participation of several BJP leaders, including national general secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam, legislators Narayan Kuche, Babanrao Lonikar, Anuradha Chavan, Kishan Wankhede and Santosh Danve, along with former Union minister Bhagwat Karad and other state and local leaders.
Representatives of various religious and social traditions, including Warkaris, Lingayats, Veerashaivas, Nath, Mahanubhav and Vaishnav communities, also attended the programme, giving the BJP campaign a broader social outreach.
