US General To Oversee Hamas Disarmament? What Netanyahu, Kushner Agreed In Latest Gaza Talks
Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, met the Israeli prime minister in Jerusalem a day after holding rare direct talks with Hamas in Egypt.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US envoy Jared Kushner agreed on Monday that an American general would oversee the verification of Hamas’s disarmament, an Israeli official said, with Netanyahu insisting that Israel would not withdraw from Gaza until the group is fully disarmed.
The understanding comes as US President Donald Trump’s administration seeks to revive a plan aimed at ending the devastating Gaza war, after Netanyahu publicly rejected its latest proposal.

US General To Verify Disarmament
Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and a longtime family friend of Netanyahu, met the Israeli prime minister in Jerusalem a day after holding rare direct talks with Hamas in Egypt. Hamas has publicly committed itself to the US-backed plan.
The two sides “agreed that no redeployment or reconstruction would take place in the Gaza Strip before Hamas is disarmed throughout Gaza”, a senior Israeli official told AFP.
“It was also agreed that the first step toward the demilitarisation of the Strip would be to require Hamas to hand over its weapons for decommissioning under the supervision of an American general,” the official said.
A roadmap agreed by Hamas on July 30 said the decommissioning of weapons would be supervised by the International Stabilization Force, a proposed international unit for Gaza led by US Major General Jasper Jeffers.
Hamas has pledged to hand over its weapons to a new Palestinian governing body, a proposal that has drawn scepticism from Netanyahu but was welcomed by Trump as a breakthrough.
Hamas Commits To Gaza Plan
An official with Trump’s “Board of Peace”, which is involved in implementing the plan, said every weapon collected would be fully decommissioned and that Israel would retain its right to self-defence.
“If Hamas resorts to terror, violence or attempts to rearm, Israel will retain the right to act accordingly,” the official said.
Kushner also sought assurances from Hamas that it would give up its weapons and renounce any future role in governing Gaza, according to sources familiar with the talks.
Former British prime minister Tony Blair was among other Board of Peace members who joined Kushner in the discussions.
A Hamas official said the group, represented by its leader Khalil al-Hayya, told Kushner it remained committed to the Gaza plan and wanted pressure to be put on Netanyahu.
