Why Is BCCI Not Confirming India’s Tour Of Bangladesh? Major Hurdle Revealed
BCB seeks BCCI confirmation for India tour, but Indian government clearance is pending.

Despite the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)’s efforts to host the Indian team for a long-postponed men’s cricket tour, there’s no confirmation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This is despite both the Indian and Bangladeshi boards being in regular contact over the series.
The rubber was supposed to happen in mid-2025. However, due to a sharp deterioration in political relations between the countries, the tour was put off. Officially, both boards said it was due to political reasons, but officials confirmed to the media that a strain between the governments was the reason.

The relations didn’t get better for months. The Muhammad Yunus interim government was infamous for seeing a rise in anti-Hindu minorities violence in Bangladesh and led to the country forming close ties with Pakistan, both of which went against the foundations of the relationship with India.
It came to a head with the Mustafizur Rahman saga in IPL 2025 and the ensuing drama about the 2026 men’s T20 World Cup, which ended with Bangladesh pulling out of the tournament in the eleventh hour. A change of government prompted evolution at the top of the BCB.
New BCB president Tamim Iqbal has been pushing for better diplomatic and sporting ties between India and Bangladesh since. A September window, just before the Asian Games, has been selected for a white-ball series as well, but a major hurdle remains. Any such tour will need clearance from the government of India, which has yet to arrive.
“We are working on it and will seek permission and clarity as far as the Bangladesh tour is concerned,” Sports Takquoted a BCCI source as saying. “We can’t take any decision on our own at this stage. No decision has been taken yet, but we will soon approach the government.”
“The BCB has written to us and they are in constant touch with us. Soon there will be more clarity,” the quoted source added.
It remains to be seen if and when the government clears it. If an arrangement isn’t found, India are also in talks with Afghanistan for playing a few white-ball matches in Delhi in the same window.
