A friend of star Delhi Capitals cricketer Abishek Porel is also named as an accused in the sexual harassment case filed against him, but the individual is yet to be apprehended, according to a report in PTI.

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday deferred the hearing of the allegation against Porel to September 14, a day after he was arrested on the same charges. This happened following a prayer by the West Bengal government for taking steps post his arrest.

Porel was arrested on Monday night after a complaint by a medical student, who alleged that he had sexual relations with her on the promise of marriage.

A report was submitted before Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya, with the state seeking an adjournment to permit the police to proceed with the investigation after the cricketer’s arrest.

Another accused in the case, a friend of Porel, is yet to be apprehended.

After adjourning the hearing, Justice Bhattacharyya directed that the matter be listed again on September 14.

Porel, who has represented Delhi Capitals in the IPL, was arrested by police in Hooghly district after a medical student filed a complaint alleging that he had sexual relations with her on the assurance of marriage, an official said.

The Chinsurah district court denied Porel’s bail plea and remanded him to three days of police custody.

The high court had directed the police to arrest Porel in connection with the case and ordered the seizure of his electronic devices to prevent any further circulation of the woman’s photos.

“A case was lodged against him and there was a court order to arrest him. He was arrested late last night. He was produced in court today,” Hooghly (Rural) Superintendent of Police Kunwar Bhushan Singh told PTI.

Porel was arrested by the Mogra police from his residence in Dum Dum, North 24 Parganas.
