Tanzid Hasan scored a memorable century on the second day of the first Test between Australia and Bangladesh in Darwin.

Bangladesh continued to impress in the ongoing first Test against Australia in Darwin, with their batting taking centre stage after a commanding display from the bowlers on Thursday. Building on a superb opening day, Bangladesh took the first-innings lead on Friday while their batter Tanzid Hasan created history by becoming the first player from his team to score a Test century in Australia.
Playing in just the second Test of his career, this was also Tanzid‘s maiden hundred at this level.

Tanzid scored 101 off 188 balls while stitching together a century stand with Mominul Haque, who missed out on a half-century by just one run.
The 25-year-old batter capitalised on a dropped catch by Nathan Lyon when he was yet to open his account, going on to hit eight fours and a six.
“This is very special for me because this is the first time I am here. They came at me very differently and I was trying to play normal cricket shots and keep calm myself. I wasn’t trying too much. I just played the ball,” Tanzid told Fox Cricket during the tea break.
He said the pitch had become much better for the batters than it was on Day 1.
“I think the wicket is much better than before, than the first day. I think it will keep getting better and better. And I think on this wicket, if we play normal cricketing shots, that will be better for us,” he said.
Tanzid is just the second Bangladeshi batter to score a Test century against Australia after Shahriar Nafees in 2006, who made 138 in Fatullah.
Tanzid’s historic hundred extended Bangladesh’s dominant start to the contest, with Australia still playing catch-up despite winning the toss and opting to bat first.
Bangladesh right-arm pacer Hasan Mahmud sliced through Australia’s batting, finishing with a six-wicket haul as the hosts were bowled out for 198 in 53 overs. Only Steve Smith offered some resistance, scoring 71 off 109 balls with the help of seven fours and a six.
The next-best effort came from opener Jake Weatherald, who made 23.
