Jharkhand Students Protest Highlights:Jharkhand Police used a lathi charge and water cannons on Monday to disperse student protesters who marched towards the state Assembly in Ranchi. The demonstration was organised over alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) examinations.

A large number of students gathered near the Vidhan Sabha as part of the ‘Vidhan Sabha Gherao’ march. The protest was led by the JPSC-JSSC Reform Morcha, which has been demanding action over alleged irregularities in the examinations and recruitment process.

The situation turned tense when police moved to control the gathering and resorted to a lathi charge. Water cannons were also used to push the protesters back.

Vikram Kumar, a student who was injured during the lathi charge, said the protesters had been demonstrating peacefully. He expressed his disappointment with Chief Minister Hemant Soren and said the students had neither abused anyone nor created trouble before the police action.

Bauri claimed that a BJP delegation had gone to Soren’s residence to discuss issues concerning the protesting students but was made to wait for nearly 11 hours.

“We had simply gone to meet Hemant Soren at his residence to discuss issues concerning students. And this dictatorial government, by keeping us waiting for 11 hours, from 10:30 AM until nearly 8:30 PM, has demonstrated that it is indeed a dictatorial regime,” Bauri said.

Bauri further alleged that the government did not tolerate criticism and questioned the silence of both Soren and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the situation.

“They do not tolerate voices of dissent. Today, both Rahul Gandhi and Hemant Soren are silent,” he said.
