Mallika Sherawat, a name often associated with bold looks, unfiltered talks and unconventional choices, but very few know that before becoming Mallika of Bollywood, she was Reema Lamba, a girl from Moth, a small village in Hisar district of Haryana. Reema is better known by her stage name, Mallika, a girl who ruled many hearts. Did you know, Mallika was just 21 years old when she got married to a Jet Airways pilot, Karan Singh Gill? While Mallika Sherawat had a love marriage, the couple parted ways following her decision to enter the glamour world. It has been decades since Mallika has been ruling the hearts of many, but she has never really opened up about her marriage and divorce.

In 2009, Stardust had revealed details about Mallika’s past that were never known before. Stardust met her uncle, Sushil Lamba, who spoke about her past and what led to her divorce. He said, “As their (Mallika and Karan) friendship started brewing, the lovebirds decided to marry soon. It was a love-cum-arranged marriage, and everybody from both sides of the family was present there at the wedding. It was a grand reception in Delhi.”

Lamba continued, “She always had a thought of becoming rich and famous. She married Gill because she was in love with him, but married life wasn’t made for her. So, she decided to quit wedlock and lead an independent lifestyle. From her own parents to her in-laws, everybody was against her decision and, as a result, she had a major argument with all of them.”

“As we have heard, her in-laws were not interested in sending their girl into films and they were completely against her late nights and parties. As a result, tension started brewing between Reema and Karan. This might be the reason for their break-up,” he concluded.

Stardust also quoted Mallika’s ex-mother-in-law, who denied knowing anyone by her name. When asked about Mallika, she straight away said that they only knew a girl named Reema Lamba (Mallika’s real name). Speaking about her, Mallika’s ex-MIL said, “She was my daughter-in-law and we all loved her very much. But, afterwards, her behaviour and independent nature started creating problems for us.”

“We wanted a girl who was independent in her thoughts but, at the same time, someone who understood the needs of the family also. But her dream was something different from what we expected. She wanted to have a career in the glamour industry,” she concluded.

It was reported that following his divorce from Mallika, while she chose not to get married again, he did give love another chance and got married. However, he does not wish to be associated with Mallika anymore. On the work front, Mallika will be seen in Traitors season 2.
