The spin-bowling all-rounder, who opened his wicket account in the second innings by dismissing Steve Smith off his own bowling in the evening session of Day 3, first removed Alex Carey on Sunday (August 16) before claiming the wickets of Beau Webster and Pat Cummins.
While Carey was caught behind by Litton Das, Webster was clean bowled by Mehidy, and Shadman Islam completed the catch of Australian captain Cummins at short leg.
Cummins’ dismissal, which came off the sixth ball of the 74th over of Australia’s second innings, was a special one for Mehidy as it took his wicket tally in the World Test Championship (WTC) to 100.
He became only the second Bangladeshi bowler after Taijul Islam to take 100 or more wickets in the WTC.
