What is JSSC-CGL?

The JSSC-CGL, or Jharkhand General Graduate Qualification Combined Competitive Examination, is a major recruitment examination conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The exam is used to recruit candidates for various Group B and Group C posts across different departments and offices of the Jharkhand government.

One of the key features of this examination is that candidates must be graduates from a recognised university. This allows graduates from different academic backgrounds to apply, provided they fulfill the other eligibility criteria mentioned in the recruitment notification.

What government jobs are available through JSSC-CGL?

The JSSC-CGL is not a recruitment examination for just one post. It provides opportunities for appointment to several positions across different departments of the Jharkhand government.

Assistant Branch Officer (ASO):

The Assistant Branch Officer is an important position in the Jharkhand Secretariat. The selected employee handles administrative and branch-related responsibilities in government offices. The work may include managing files, official correspondence, and assisting with various departmental activities.

Junior Auditor:

The role of a Junior Auditor is primarily associated with accounts and financial records. The post involves examining financial documents and reviewing accounting-related work in government departments.

Labour Enforcement Officer:

A Labour Enforcement Officer works under the Labour Department. The responsibilities may include inspections and departmental action related to compliance with labour laws and regulations.

Block Welfare Officer:

The Block Welfare Officer is associated with welfare schemes and departmental activities in rural areas. The position involves implementing government welfare schemes and handling related responsibilities at the block level.

Block Supply Officer:

The Block Supply Officer (BSO) is responsible for overseeing the supply and public distribution system. This position plays an important role in managing the government’s supply system at the block level.

Planning Assistant:

A Planning Assistant supports work related to government schemes and departmental planning. Responsibilities may include maintaining planning records, handling data, and assisting with departmental procedures.

Apart from these positions, other posts may also be included in different JSSC-CGL recruitment advertisements. Therefore, candidates should always check the official notification for each recruitment cycle to understand the available posts and their respective eligibility requirements.

How much salary is offered through JSSC-CGL?

The salary offered through JSSC-CGL varies depending on the post. According to the applicable pay scales, salaries for different positions can range approximately from Rs 19,900 to Rs 1,42,400.

For example, the pay scale for an Assistant Branch Officer (ASO) is approximately Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,42,400. The Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) has a pay scale of approximately Rs 19,900 to Rs 63,200. The pay scale for a Block Supply Officer (BSO) is approximately Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400, while a Planning Assistant can have a pay scale ranging from approximately Rs 29,200 to Rs 92,300.

It is important to understand that the pay scale and actual in-hand salary are not the same. The monthly amount received by an employee depends on the basic salary, applicable allowances, and deductions. The exact in-hand salary can therefore vary depending on the post, recruitment rules, department, and place of posting.

What allowances are provided along with the salary?

Apart from the basic salary, employees appointed through JSSC-CGL may receive various allowances and benefits according to government rules. These may include dearness allowance (DA), house rent allowance (HRA), travelling allowance (TA), medical facilities, fuel or conveyance allowances, and other departmental benefits.

The available benefits may also include provisions such as foreign travel, deputation, refreshment, subsistence, provident fund, daily allowance, briefcase allowance, cash-handling allowance, and child education allowance.

However, all employees do not receive the same allowances. The benefits depend on the post, department, place of posting, and the applicable government rules.

How long is the probation period?

Candidates selected through JSSC-CGL may have to undergo a probation period at the beginning of their service. According to the available details, this period is generally around one to two years.

During probation, an employee’s work, conduct, and performance are evaluated. However, the exact probation period and conditions can differ depending on the post and applicable service rules. Therefore, candidates should refer to their appointment letter and the relevant service rules for complete information.

In the case of the 14th JPSC preliminary examination, the government decided to cancel the exam on August 9. It also announced the cancellation of the 2023 and 2025 JPSC backlog examinations. The government has announced measures such as an expert committee and a fast-track court, along with other steps aimed at improving the examination system.

However, students continue to protest over the JSSC-CGL issue. Their argument is that merely cancelling the JPSC examination does not address their concerns. They are also seeking an independent investigation into the JSSC-CGL matter and continue to press for this demand.
