Mumbai News Update: Mumbai Police have registered a non-cognisable (NC) offence after a purported threat audio clip targeting Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Zeeshan Siddique, son of late former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, surfaced on social media.
According to police, the complaint was lodged by Siddique’s sister, Arshia Siddique, who came across the audio clip online. Officials clarified that Zeeshan Siddique did not receive any direct threat and has not personally filed a complaint.

Police Verify Viral Audio Clip
Police said the audio was uploaded from a social media account using the name of Zeeshan Akhtar, who purportedly identifies himself as the gangster of the same name in the recording, as reported by The Times of India.
In the viral clip, the speaker allegedly tells Siddique to tighten his security before claiming responsibility for Baba Siddique’s murder and threatening him with death. “As you know, I have killed your father, and now it’s your turn. Beef up your security as I have issued your death warrant. I have found your involvement in Sushant Singh Rajput’s case,” the speaker allegedly says in the audio.
The clip also makes an unverified reference to actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
A Bandra police officer said investigators are examining the authenticity of the recording, verifying whether the voice actually belongs to Zeeshan Akhtar, and probing whether he was responsible for uploading or circulating the clip. Police have also sought details to trace the Internet Protocol (IP) address from which it was uploaded.
Threat Emerges Months After Baba Siddique’s Murder
The purported threat surfaced on August 6, nearly two years after Baba Siddique was shot dead outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra East on October 12, 2024.
During the investigation into the murder, the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested 27 people and subsequently filed a chargesheet in the case.
The chargesheet names jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi as the alleged mastermind behind the killing. His brother, Anmol Bishnoi, who is wanted in the case, has also been named in the chargesheet. Meanwhile, Zeeshan Akhtar, who is also wanted in connection with the murder, remains absconding.
According to investigators, the murder was allegedly planned to establish dominance, with police citing Baba Siddique’s close association with actor Salman Khan as part of the motive.
MCOCA Charges Already Framed
On February 10, 2026, a special court framed charges against the 27 accused in the Baba Siddique murder case under provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bombay Police Act and the Arms Act.
Police said further action in the latest case will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation into the authenticity and source of the viral audio clip.
