Mitchell Starc continues to set new benchmark and with the wicket of Bangladeshi opener Shadman Islam in Darwin on Thursday, became the left-arm bowler with most wickets in the history of Test cricket. Starc began the Test level with Rangana Herath and when he had Islam caught by teammate Lyon in the 9th over of Bangladesh’s first innings of the first Test, he surpassed the Sri Lanka spin bowling great in the list having taken his tally to 434 in 106 Tests.

Starc is now the joint 11th highest wicket-taker in Test cricket alongside India legend Kapil Dev whose 434 wickets came in 131 matches between 1978 and 1994.

The left-arm pacer is now six scalps away from breaking into the top 10 list of Test cricket’s highest wicket-taker. Currently, South Africa fast bowling legend Dale Steyn occupies the 10th spot in all-time list with 439 wickets from 93 Tests.
