“Obviously, the biggest name who has been left out or released is Faf du Plessis. I still think he has a lot to offer as a player, but when a new coach like Albie Morkel comes in, you have to start looking towards the future,” Morris said in response to a question from CNN-News18 CricketNext.

However, Morris believes there is a possibility that JSK could bring Du Plessis back through the upcoming auction, given the Super Kings franchise’s history of re-signing players.

“We know the Super Kings franchise likes to bring players back through the auction, so I think Faf is a big one because of the leadership role he plays within the JSK squad. He was probably the name that stood out to me the most.

“At the end of the day, though, you have to start building for the future at some stage. I still think Faf could have added a lot of value, and I wouldn’t be surprised if JSK bring him back in yellow next season,” Morris said.

Morris also suggested that South African all-rounder Donovan Ferreira could take over as Joburg Super Kings’ full-time captain in SA20. He believes that if the franchise manages to sign Du Plessis back at the auction, the veteran batter could play a key role in guiding Ferreira and the rest of the squad.

“Donovan Ferreira looks set to take over the captaincy, so they are clearly looking towards the future. If they do bring Faf back, they would have someone who can really guide the squad and help a new captain usher in a new era for JSK,” Morris said.
