Mumbai Model Rhiya Ahir Claims Instagram ‘Restricted’ Her Account After Protest Posts; Internet Says ‘Victim Card Declined’
Model-activist Rhiya Ahir claims Instagram restricted her account after she shared Mumbai protest-related content, prompting debate and mixed reactions online

Model and activist Rhea Ahir has claimed that Instagram restricted her account after she shared content related to recent Mumbai protests. According to Ahir, some users have been unable to subscribe to her account after her subscriptions were suddenly disabled.
Questioning the alleged restriction, Ahir suggested that she had not posted anything that violated Instagram’s rules. She also drew attention to a post featuring a scene from the 1984 film Party, which she said revolved around the relationship between art, politics and social responsibility.

Ahir appeared to question whether the post could have played a role in the restrictions she claims to be facing.
Her comments come amid reports from other users and social media pages claiming that Instagram has removed or restricted posts associated with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests.
Some of the reported content has been critical of police action during the demonstrations. Users have also claimed that Instagram cited local legal requirements under India’s information technology rules in some cases, although the specific reasons for individual takedowns or restrictions remain unclear.
The development has once again brought attention to the way social media platforms handle political, protest-related and potentially contentious content in India. While platforms have policies governing content moderation, users have increasingly questioned how such rules are applied and whether certain posts are being restricted because of their political or protest-related nature.
Who Is Rhiya Ahir?
Rhiya Ahir, a 27-year-old model and activist, previously came into the spotlight during a student protest in Mumbai after a dramatic incident at Shivaji Park in Dadar.
During the protest, Ahir reportedly noticed a police van carrying detained student demonstrators. Concerned about the number of people inside the vehicle and worried that the students could face formal charges and FIRs, she stepped in front of the moving police van in an attempt to stop it.
Although she later admitted feeling anxious during the confrontation, Ahir remained in front of the vehicle as police officers reportedly attempted to move it forward. She questioned the officers and demanded that the detained students be released instead of being taken away.
The confrontation eventually ended with the students being released from the vehicle. Video clips showing Ahir standing in front of the police van subsequently circulated widely on social media, with several users praising her intervention and describing it as an act of courage and solidarity.
Her latest claims about Instagram have now sparked another round of discussion online, with social media users divided over her allegations and her earlier activism.
Internet Reacts
The post discussing the alleged Instagram restriction quickly attracted reactions from users.
“@meta @instagram @zuck do you want us to shift to other platforms?? If you’re gonna do this unfair way,” said one user.
“How many more subscribers u needed ?..just move on from that fake police van stopping.. usually opposition parties supports u.. that doesn’t mean u achieved something,” said another.
“Dimaagi santulan kharab ho gya iska 😂😂😂….. Agr bina subscription apna account rakh deti to wse hi million followers ho jate …. Tera support har koi karta,” said a third user.
