Shatrughan Sinha was married to Poonam when his relationship with Reena Roy continued.

The resemblance between Sonakshi Sinha and Reena Roy became a talking point after Dabangg. In an interview with Firstpost, she was asked why Sonakshi ‘looks so much like her’. To this, she said, “Wahin na, yeh zindagi ke ittefaq hote hain (these are the quirks of destiny).

Shatrughan and Reena’s relationship was one of Bollywood’s most talked-about romances of the era. The two also starred together in several films.

According to Shatrughan’s authorised biography, Reena gave him an ultimatum: marry her or she would marry someone else within eight days.

Shatrughan married Poonam in 1980, but his relationship with Reena did not immediately end. He later acknowledged their continued involvement after his marriage. “When you are at home, you feel guilty about neglecting the other woman. When you are with her, you feel guilty about your wife,” he said in his biography ‘Anything But Khamosh’ written by Bharathi S Pradhan.

In fact, Shatrughan wrote that he was with Reena in London just two days before his wedding to Poonam. Reena reportedly drove him to the airport.

Reena eventually married Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan in 1983 and moved to Pakistan, while Shatrughan remained married to Poonam.

Talking to Masala, Sonakshi Sinha said of the affair, “I think it happened when I was not even born. I found out when I was growing up and started understanding things. But I’m not going to crucify my father for something he did years back.”

She also rejected the idea that she looks like her and said, “I look like my mother Poonam Sinha.”
